Overview of Kotegaeshi

Kotegaeshi - small hand turn (wrist Out-turn)

Kotegaeshi is a practical and versatile technique where pressure is applied to the wrist joint to either throw, control or otherwise subdue Uke.

The clips presented in these examples are all based around Kotegaeshi. At first sight many of these techniques appear quite different, but the principles behind them cross over all of these examples.

The 'Basic' form techniques are the same method as taught by the early instructors in the UK, namely Sns Kenshiro Abbe, Sns Tadashe Abe, Sns Ken Williams, Sns Masahiro Nakazono.

Many of these techniques show standard wrist applications, but some also emphasise the use of movement and posture control to demonstrate that this technique contains far more than simply a wrist joint application.
